Showbox seals multiple deals for <The Thieves>

A Korean heist action blockbuster <The Thieves> directed by Choi Dong-hoon, a hit maker from <Woochi> and <Tazza : The High Rollers> has been pre-sold to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan. Picked up by Dream Movie Entertainment for Singapore and Malaysia, Queen International Pictures for Indonesia and Catchplay for Taiwan, the film is expected to be wide released in each territory after its home premiere in this summer.

The deals were made by Showbox / Mediaplex last year in pre-production stage. Showbox is in discussion with distributors for China, Japan and territories outside of Asia and will continue its sales push in HK Filmart.

The film is starring multiple A-list casts from Asia led by Kim Yun-seok (Punch, The Yellow Sea), Kim Hye-soo (Tazza : The High Rollers), Lee Jung-jae (The Housemaid), Gianna Jun (Blood : The Last Vampire, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, My Sassy Girl), Simon Yam (Vengeance, Ip Man), Kim Hae-sook (Thirst), Oh Dal-soo (Detective K : Secret of Virtuous Widow, Old Boy), Kim Soo-hyun (tv – Dream High, The Sun and the Moon), Derek Tsang (Dream Home) and Lee Sinje (The Eye). The story tells about a band of six infamous thieves from Korea being assembled with four Chinese top players in order to steal ‘Tears of the Sun’, a notoriously priceless diamond, from a casino in Macao.

Having market premiere of a music romance <Love On-Air> and festival screening of <From Seoul to Varanasi> in this Filmart, Showbox will continue its pre-sales for two action thrillers <Confession of Murder> and <A Company Man> as well as an erotic thriller <The Scent>. Other line-up includes a cyber horror <Don’t Click> and recent box office hit <Nameless Gangster : Rules of the Time>.

Showbox has also recently added Kim Yong-hwa’s <Mr. Go 3D>, an over USD 20M budgeted creature drama, in its slate. Story about a gorilla who is trained to play a baseball in pro-team, the film is in production and will be shot in stereoscopic 3D targeting its release next summer.
